Howard W. Schneider, DDS, PC

In order to more easily accommodate our patient’s scheduling needs Dr. Schneider has two office locations; our main office in Huntington Village, and our satellite office in East Northport.  All patients can be seen in either office.

Patients are seen by appointment only. Please call (631) 351-1540 and one of our staff members will be glad to help you schedule an appointment for your child.  Please note that younger children often “do better” in the morning when they are less tired, and that we only schedule longer, more complicated procedures, on weekday mornings.

We make every effort to be on time and ask that you extend the same courtesy to us. As you know, situations do arise when a young patient requires an extraordinary amount of time or emergency care. Your patience is greatly appreciated. Please know that if your child ever needs extra treatment time or emergency care we will adjust to his or her needs. Should it be necessary for you to miss an appointment, kindly notify our office at least 24 hours in advance so the time can be made available for another child in need of care. It is customary to bill for missed appointments.

As a courtesy to the parents of our patients we will try to confirm appointments one-two days in advance. If you do not receive a telephone call before your child’s appointment however, do not feel that it has been cancelled. We, for some reason, were just not able to reach you, but we expect to see you at your scheduled time.

Regular periodic dental examinations, plaque control checks, and fluoride applications are essential to any preventive dental care program.  Experience shows that children who participate regularly in a preventive program have lower incidence of dental decay then those who are seen sporadically.  Ultimately, this benefits your child and helps to keep costs down.

As a courtesy, we will contact you by phone or by postcard when it is time for your child to return for a preventive check-up.  If for some reason you have not heard from us within 6 months from your child’s previous preventive check-up, please call us at (631) 351-1540 for an appointment.  Remember, the responsibility of returning for dental care lies with you, the parent.

Achieving and maintaining optimum dental health for your child and having fun at the same time requires a joint effort.  We will teach you and your child proper home care, but it is your responsibility for cleaning your child’s teeth during their first several years and for overseeing the process though late childhood.  Good habits started now will yield a lifetime of good dental health.

If you are faced with questions from your child about upcoming dental visits, we offer the following suggestion.  Answer honestly.  The best and honest answer is, “I’m not sure what will be done.  When we see Dr. Schneider, let’s ask him.  I’m sure he will explain what will happen.”  Your child may become confused or apprehensive when given more information than he or she can understand.  It is advisable to avoid phrases like “Don’t worry, it won’t hurt.”  A child may not have been worrying.  More importantly, what will be done may, in fact, be somewhat uncomfortable.  Your child may lose trust if what was promised is not fulfilled.  Pediatric dentists use a special format called “tell, show, do” and appropriate language to prepare your child for each visit.  Even if your child experiences worry, do not try to deny or cover up the worry.  Let your youngster know it is O.K. to worry and make sure they tell the doctor about it.

When a child has finished a visit avoid saying, “That wasn’t so bad, was it?”  Rather, stress how proud you are that your child helpedDr. Schneider.  Remember, accentuate the positive.

We have noticed that young children, even those who have done well during treatment, may cry upon seeing a parent after treatment.  This may be related to relief or to seeking sympathy.  A hug goes a long way.

If you accompany your child to the treatment area, please do not answer those questions which Dr. Schneider has directed toward the youngster.  This allows your child to focus on Dr. Schneider and permits the establishment of good “one on one” rapport.  Some of the questions are merely our efforts to establish communication with your child.  Your child will learn that you will answer when he or she does not.

The ability of the dentist to communicate and work with your child is a cornerstone of Pediatric Dentistry.  Please feel free to discuss with us any concerns you have in these matters.

Since the cost of preparing statements and sending bills are constantly increasing, and since we wish to do our best to help keep dental costs down, we request payment for services at each visit. If you have dental insurance we may be able to arrange for your insurance to send payment to our office and then bill your credit card for any remaining balance due.

Our fees for professional services are consistent with other area specialists and they are related to our time, effort, and quality of services rendered. We are glad to discuss fees with you, provide an estimate for proposed treatment, and make arrangements to plan payment for extended courses of treatment. As a courtesy we accept, MasterCard, Visa, American Express, Discover, and CareCreditcards.

We are happy to help you prepare the necessary forms for this important benefit. We will do our best to see that you receive your maximum benefits. Please keep in mind that your policy is an agreement between you and your insurance company, not your insurance company and our office.

If your insurance company allows it, we can arrange for them to send their portion of the payment directly to our office.  We would then bill your credit card for any amounts that were not covered by your dental insurance.

If your insurance company will not allow benefits to be assigned to our office then we request that you pay our office at the time of treatment and then have your insurance company pay you back directly.

We take pride not just in how we treat our patients, but how we treat our environment as well.  Dr. Schneider has instituted several environmentally - friendly initiates in our offices including:
